Enclosure No.2.
13
ATTORNEY GENERAL'S CHAMBERS,
Hong Kong 1st October,
1931.
REPORT ON ORDINANCE No
21
of 1931.
1.
I have examined the accompanying Ordinance.
intituled an
Ordinance to amend the Magistrates Ordinance, 1890, and
I am of opinion that the Ordinance is one which is not
contrary to the Governor's instructions.
2.
The object of this Ordinance is to amend sections 73
and 74 of the principal Ordinance so as to make it clear
that the accused shall be informed that he has the right,
similar to the provision in section 12 (2) of the Criminal
Justice Act, 1925, (15 & 16 Geo.5,ch.86), to give evidence
on his own behalf, if he so desires.
3.
In my opinion this is an Ordinance to which His
Excellency the Governor may properly assent in the name of
His Majesty and on His behalf.
